An unconventional question worth exploring.
What if hundreds of millions of people aren't failing to thrive because of identity or lifestyle...
What if they're limited by compromised capacity.
Should we maybe ask:
Is my biology, not my psychology, the invisible limit on my life?
We think that question could change how we view human potential and health at large.
People are living with chronic conditions, fatigue, metabolic dysfunction, inflammation, anxiety, depression, obesity, and declining cognitive and physical capacity.
We continue to treat many of these experiences as separate problems, often looking at identity, behaviour, psychology, and lifestyle choices.
What if these are not the root of the problem, but expressions of something deeper?
What if we've missed a critical factor that determines our ability to thrive?
We've been fighting a biological war with a psychological weapon.
What happens when the demands of life exceed the capacity available to meet them?
In economics, this is a capacity constraint.
Humans already encounter capacity constraints everywhere.
We simply don't tend to examine them through a biological lens.
Instead, we often try to address our ability to perform, persist and follow through through motivation, mindset, habits, performance enhancement and even spiritual bypassing.
But what if capacity can't be explained or solved exclusively through psychology, somatics or behaviour?
What if capacity is, at least in part, a biological problem?
This is the emerging discovery we are exploring.
And mitochondrial DNA sits at the epicenter of that conversation.
Mitochondria, known as the powerhouse of the cell, plays a central role in how our cells produce and use energy to regulate the human system at large.
And mitochondrial dysfunction is being investigated across some of the most widely experienced areas of human health and wellbeing — from everyday functioning to potentially more than 30 major chronic illnesses.
The scale is enormous.

Hundreds of millions are living with these conditions, limiting their experiences.
But these aren't just numbers.
They represent people.
People struggling with comprised capacity that impacts their daily quality of life:
Energy. Focus. Productivity. Creativity. Mood. Sleep. Metabolism. Recovery. Physical function. Illness.+++
At best, people are struggling to reach new levels of their potential.
At worst, they are suffering and questioning how to even keep going.
That brings us back to the question at the heart of MetaFast:
What if biological capacity is a key condition that determines how well we are able to function, adapt, recover and thrive?
And, capacity isn't only about how healthy we are.
It influences what we are able to do.
We create at the level of our vision. We exist at the level of our capacity.
What happens when the capacity available to us is not enough to meet the demands of our lives?
We know what we want to do.
We may even be motivated to do it.
But motivation doesn't always become completed action.
What if biological capacity is one of the upstream variables determining whether motivation becomes completed action?
Every action has a cost.
It requires energy, attention, regulation, effort and recovery.
When capacity is constrained, ordinary life can require extraordinary effort.
So we began asking a different question:
What if capacity changes the economics of action?
This is where the Capacity Economy™ enters.
Not as proven science.
As our research inquiry.
We think capacity can influence whether we regulate toward comfort when demand exceeds supply or mobilize toward reward when we can ensure supply meets demands.
However, compromised capacity is not one isolated problem, it is systemic.

It can show up in the mind and brain.
In energy, fatigue, sleep and physical endurance.
In metabolism and everyday body function.
In inflammation and immune regulation.
Across chronic and multisystem conditions.
Through neurological and neurodegenerative disease.
And across the enormous landscape of noncommunicable disease.
If the amount of capacity available to us influences what we can initiate, sustain, recover from; it ultimately could dictate what we are able to consistently master.
Beyond health, this gives us a different way to look at some of the experiences we commonly describe as procrastination, inconsistency, avoidance, lack of discipline or lack of motivation.
Not to dismiss psychology or behaviour.
But to ask whether something upstream may also be influencing the equation.
We think that by incrementally restoring biological capacity, we could change the economics of action.
And in turn transform how people execute, heal, embody, create, contribute and sustain.
Sometimes the breakthrough isn't a better answer. It is a better question.
We collectively have spent decades trying to understand human health, behaviour, performance and wellbeing through increasingly specialized lenses.
What if there was one biological signal that could optimize system-wide capacity, health and well-being with minimal intervention?
That question has led us to mitochondria — and specifically mitochondrial DNA.
Mitochondrial function is being investigated across the seven categorical scopes of compromised capacity we have mapped.
That breadth is why we have taken a serious interest in it.
And it has led us to develop MetaFast® and Harmogenic mtDNA Fasting™.
While mitochondrial involvement does not confirm causation of many conditions, we believe that restoring this one upstream biological system could significantly influence many downstream expressions of human flourishing.
MetaFast® is a 9-day mtDNA Reset protocol.
It is a structured fasting experience designed to initiate the restoration of mitochondrial capacity through a unique sequence of fasting, recovery and adaptation.
What can MetaFast® change?
We anticipate that restoring biological capacity could transform energy, clarity, productivity and everyday function, while reducing some of the functional burden associated with chronic illness and compromised capacity.
What makes it Harmogenic™?
The Harmogenic™ approach recognizes that successful fasting involves more than biology alone.
It works across interconnected biological, neurological, psychological, somatic, emotional, behavioural and spiritual systems, including identity, because all of these can play a role in how we experience, navigate and successfully complete the fasting process.
If you feel like you have struggled with capacity, or have experienced what it means to feel compromised, you are in the right place.
We would love to extend an invitation to join the MetaFast® experience, hosted inside the EDEN Members Club once it launches.

Gi Gi O’Brien has been researching and practicing fasting for more than 15 years.
Her early work in the field began years before MetaFast®, including a manuscript first written in 2020 exploring fasting, biology, neurology, psychology, nutrition, autophagy and related mechanisms.
In 2026, following two Stage IV diagnoses and two major surgeries for Endometriosis and then Adenomyosis, only four months apart, she had the painful realization that we do not create at the level of our vision. We exist at the level of our capacity.
And hers was severely compromised.
A longstanding inquiry became an urgent investigation into a question:
What if, instead of only fighting disease, we began understanding the environment in which health thrives?
This question became the catalyst for examining health as an interconnected system, and specifically investigating the relationship between fasting, mitochondrial function, mtDNA, metabolism, the nervous system and human capacity to regulate, heal and thrive.
Since initiating this protocol, she has been deeply moved by the global scope of its potential impact and the deeper conversation worth having, and continues on her mission to leverage divine design to restore humanity's capacity to thrive.
This is the soul of MetaFast®.
Gi Gi is now shortlisting intereviewees for her upcoming book The Intelligence of Metafasting®, if you are interested please find more details here.
